Book review: Coming Back Stronger by Drew Brees

After reading “Coming Back Stronger” by Drew Brees, I decided to give this book 3 stars. Why only 3 stars?? Well, let me explain. I actually did think that this was a good book overall – meaning it had a good message, and it was written in a way that kept my attention. I liked the overall story/message of the book. I think Drew Brees (and his wife) are very firm in their faith, and really enjoyed reading how they use their faith in God in their everyday life and life decisions. I think it would really be an inspiration to those reading this book to try to do the same in their own lives. The other underlying “message” from Drew was that no matter what life throws at you, if you just push yourself (and rely on God for His help) and work harder than you think you can, that you are able to overcome life’s “lemons”.

However, I think if you’re a HUGE football fan, and love stats and game “facts” (i.e. – who did what, and for how many yards, etc.), this book would be rated about 4.5 stars. I actually am a football fan, but I got “bored” about halfway through the book of being inundated with WAY too many football facts, stats, game plays, etc. Towards the beginning of the book, I didn’t seem to mind it as much. But, once I was about halfway through, either I was getting sick of all the football players’ names and plays, or there may have been more and more of this as I kept continuing through the book.

I would recommend this book to football fans, especially those who like to read about plays and players and stats. In fact, I think others (non-football fans) would still like the overall point and message of this book, but like myself, may have a hard time reading through the whole book without eventually getting overwhelmed (and slightly bored) by the excessive football terminology and facts.
